COTTAGE GROVE, once an independent city located on the Houston and Texas Central railroad’s Eureka Junction rail stop, is a neighborhood on the western edge of the Heights surrounding Interstate 10 and T. C. Jester
Boulevard. The town was founded in 1910 but absorbed by the City of Houston as the century progressed. In recent decades, the area has transitioned from predominantly single-family cottages to a vibrant mix
of renovated and expanded cottages and modern townhomes. The diverse choices attract young professionals who appreciate the proximity to downtown, Memorial Park and the Galleria.
Located within the Houston Independent School District, most Cottage Grove residences are zoned to Memorial Elementary School or Love Elementary School, Hogg Middle School, and Waltrip High School or Lamar High School.
The banks of White Oak Bayou and Cottage Grove Park, a tree-shaded neighborhood park, are popular recreation spots in the neighborhood. Cottage Grove Park has a full covered basketball court, a 60-foot baseball field, a playground, paved parking, and access to the hike and bike trail along White Oak Bayou.
As the neighborhood has changed, upscale shopping, retail and restaurants have been established, particularly along Memorial Drive and further north along 11th Street.
