Oak Forest

Oak Forest, Houston’s third largest neighborhood, is drawing families and creatives alike, looking for a close-in neighborhood with a community feel. A dynamic blend of ranch homes and new constructions, green space, and commercial resources, it has been named one of the “25 Hottest Neighborhoods” in Houston by Houstonia magazine.

In 1946, Frank Sharp began the development of Oak Forest for veterans returning from World War II. His corporation established the first section then laid the foundation of streets and utilities for independent contractors to continue to build out the full 18 sections, making it the largest subdivision in Houston until Sharp developed Sharpstown.

Nestled between T.C. Jester and I-45 north of 610, Oak Forest is only 10 minutes from the Galleria and Downtown. Its original ranch homes sold for $8,000-$10,000. Now homes range from the $400s up to over $1 million for new constructions. When Sharp planned the community, ample acreage was designated for churches, recreation and commercial development. There are four area parks, numerous places of worship, groceries, cleaners, shops, libraries, wine bars, gastropubs, and eateries intertwined throughout the area and often within walking distance.

Several HISD elementary schools have joined top-notch Oak Forest Elementary, with Frank Black Middle School and Waltrip High School serving neighborhood students. The HOA strives to bring neighbors together by hosting regular events like movie nights, socials and mixers, a running club, crawfish boil, family field day, 4th of July parade, and
breakfast with Santa. With it’s eclectic charm Oak Forest appeals to buyers looking for small town sense of community blooming right in the heart to the city.
